Wisdom Teeth Extraction in Brampton
Are your wisdom teeth causing you pain? Consider wisdom teeth removal
Our goal at Lakeridge Dental is to save all of your teeth, but sometimes, when they have recurring infections, are cracked, the cavity is too large or there just is not enough space for the teeth in the arch, then dental extractions are needed.
Impacted and partially erupted wisdom teeth can cause pain, inflammation, infection, and even decay as they come into the mouth and push against other teeth. In other cases, only part of the tooth may be erupted and the flap of gum tissue can repeatedly get infected. In extreme cases, cysts may develop around the wisdom teeth. In cases like this, the health of the jaw bone is at risk and extraction will be the course of action.
When considering your other teeth, a tooth extraction is the last viable option that Lakeridge Dental would consider only after doing everything else possible to save the tooth. If the tooth has been dislodged, is badly broken down, cracked, repeatedly infected, or there is excessive loss of bone around the tooth, then tooth extraction may be considered as the best course of action to preserve the health of your other teeth and surrounding bone.Â
Why do you need your wisdom teeth removed?
- If they have large cavities
- If you have no room for them to grow in and there are other indications for extractions
- If they are partially erupted or not erupted and causing gum problems and/or dental problems on the teeth in front
- Every clinical situation and patient is unique, so please come in for a full assessment at Lakeridge Dental
What is the process?
First, the dentist will perform a full assessment of your medical history, dental history, family history and habits. They will then assess the tooth in the office and take some dental radiographs (X-rays) which are digital and have much lower radiation than film. After the diagnosis and treatment plan to extract the tooth are in place, the dentist will anesthetize the area for a comfortable extraction. The extraction is them performed. Most patients report feeling pressure in the area, but no pain. You are then able to go about your day as normal with minimal discomfort (unless you are sedated).
Any pain that you feel has been scientifically proven to be best managed with Ibuprofen. Your dentist will determine the proper pain control appropriate for your medical history.
The dentists and staff at Lakeridge dental are trained to treat you in a calming atmosphere and you can be assured that your dental health is in the best hands here.
Please see SEDATION SECTION if you are an anxious patient.

Protecting Your Oral Health for the Long Term
At Lakeridge Dental, our focus is always on prevention and preservation. At Lakeridge Dental, our focus is always on prevention and preservation. However, there are times when removing a tooth, particularly a wisdom tooth,is the most responsible choice for your long-term oral health. Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, often emerge between the ages of 17 and 25, and for many patients, they bring more trouble than benefit.
These molars are located at the very back of your mouth and are notorious for causing crowding, discomfort, infection, and other oral health problems. Since they are the last teeth to erupt, they often lack the space needed to grow in properly, leading to partial eruption, misalignment, and impaction beneath the gums.
If your wisdom teeth are causing issues or showing signs that they may in the future, our team is here to guide you through your options.
When Wisdom Teeth Become a Problem
It’s not always obvious when wisdom teeth need to be removed, as many patients experience no noticeable symptoms until complications arise. That’s why a proactive assessment at Lakeridge Dental is so important,we can identify potential problems early, before they become more serious. Wisdom teeth often require removal when they begin to shift nearby teeth out of alignment, become impacted beneath the gumline causing pressure or pain, or develop cavities that are difficult to treat due to their location. They may also lead to repeated infections in the surrounding gum tissue or contribute to cysts and damage to the nearby bone. Even if you’re not currently experiencing discomfort, our dentists will carefully evaluate your X-rays to determine whether wisdom tooth removal can help prevent future issues and protect your overall oral health.
What Makes Wisdom Teeth Different?
Unlike other teeth, wisdom teeth don’t always grow in straight or predictably. Some may erupt at odd angles, pressing against nearby teeth or becoming trapped beneath the bone. In these cases, extraction isn’t just a matter of removing a tooth,it’s a preventive measure to protect the health of your jaw, gums, and smile overall.
Our Brampton-based dentists will review your digital radiographs to assess the exact angle, depth, and development of your wisdom teeth. If removal is needed, we’ll walk you through each step with care and clarity.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the signs that I need my wisdom teeth removed?
Common signs you may need wisdom teeth extraction include jaw pain, swollen gums, difficulty opening your mouth, bad breath, or repeated infections near the back of your mouth. At Lakeridge Dental in Brampton, we use X-rays to confirm whether extraction is necessary.
How long does it take to recover from wisdom tooth extraction?
Most patients recover from wisdom tooth removal within 3 to 7 days. Mild swelling and discomfort are common, but these symptoms typically improve quickly with proper aftercare and medications recommended by your Brampton dentist at Lakeridge Dental.
Are wisdom teeth always removed, or can they stay in?
Not all wisdom teeth need to be removed. If they are fully erupted, properly aligned, and easy to clean, they may not cause issues. Our dentists in Brampton will assess your unique case using digital X-rays to determine the best course of action.
Is wisdom teeth removal painful?
The procedure itself is not painful because local anesthesia is used to numb the area completely. You may feel pressure, but no sharp pain. At Lakeridge Dental, we also offer sedation options for anxious patients to ensure a stress-free experience.
What is the best age to remove wisdom teeth?
Wisdom teeth are typically removed between the ages of 17 and 25, before the roots fully develop. Early evaluation at our Brampton dental office can help prevent complications and ensure an easier, faster recovery.
Can wisdom teeth cause damage to other teeth?
Yes, impacted or misaligned wisdom teeth can push against nearby molars, leading to crowding, shifting, or damage. They can also trap bacteria, increasing your risk of gum disease and tooth decay. Early detection at Lakeridge Dental can prevent these issues.
Do I need to take time off work or school after wisdom tooth extraction?
Most patients take one or two days off after surgery, especially if multiple wisdom teeth are removed. We provide personalized aftercare instructions to help you recover quickly. Many of our Brampton patients return to normal activities within 24 to 48 hours.
